September 2  Vietnam-Independence Day

September 2 is the National Day of Vietnam every year, and Vietnam is a national holiday. On September 2, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh, the pioneer of the Vietnamese revolution, read Vietnam’s “Declaration of Independence” here, announcing the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (after the reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1976), the country was named the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Activities: Vietnam National Day will hold grand parades, singing and dancing, military exercises and other activities, and there will be special orders.

September 6  United States & Canada-Labor Day

 In August 1889, US President Benjamin Harrison signed the Labor Day Act of the United States, voluntarily setting the first Monday in September as Labor Day.

 In 1894, the then Prime Minister of Canada, John Thompson, adopted the American approach and made the first week of September a Labor Day, so Canadian Labor Day became a holiday to commemorate these workers who worked hard for their own rights.

 Therefore, the time of Labor Day in the United States and Labor Day in Canada are the same, and there is one day off on that day.

 Activities: People across the United States generally hold parades, rallies and other celebrations to show respect for labor. In some states, people even hold a picnic after the parade to eat, drink, sing, and dance lively. At night, fireworks are set off in some places.

September 7  Brazil-Independence Day

On September 7, 1822, Brazil declared complete independence from Portugal and established the Brazilian Empire. Pietro I, 24, became the King of Brazil.

Activities: On National Day, most cities in Brazil hold parades. On this day, the streets are crowded with people. Beautifully decorated floats, military bands, cavalry regiments, and students in traditional costumes parade along the street, attracting the attention of the audience.

September 7  Israel-New Year

Rosh Hashanah is the first day of the seventh month of the Tishrei (Hebrew) calendar and the first month of the Chinese calendar. It is a New Year for people, animals, and legal documents. It also commemorates the creation of the heaven and the earth by God and the sacrifice of Abraham Isaac to God.

Rosh Hashanah is considered to be one of the most important holidays of the Jewish nation. It lasts for two days. During these two days, all official business ceases.

Customs: Religious Jews will participate in a long synagogue prayer meeting, chant specific prayers, and sing praise songs handed down from generation to generation. The prayers and hymns of Jewish groups of different backgrounds are slightly different.

September 9   North Korea-National Day

On September 9, Kim Il-sung, then chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Prime Minister of the Korean Cabinet, announced to the world the establishment of the “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” which represents the will of the entire Korean people.

Activities: During the National Day, the North Korean flag will be inserted across the streets and alleys of Pyongyang, and the giant slogans that are a major feature of North Korea will also stand in prominent areas such as traffic arteries, stations and squares in the urban area.

Whenever the major year is a multiple of the fifth or tenth anniversary of the founding of the government, the Kim Il Sung Square in the center of Pyongyang will hold a major celebration to celebrate the National Day. Including a grand military parade, mass demonstrations, and various theatrical performances commemorating the late “Eternal Chairman of the Republic” Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.

September 16   Mexico-Independence Day

On September 16, 1810, Hidalgo, the leader of the Mexican Independence Movement, summoned the people and issued the famous “Dolores Call”, which opened the prelude to the Mexican War of Independence. To commemorate Hidalgo, the Mexican people have designated this day as Mexico’s Independence Day.

Activities: Generally speaking, Mexicans are used to celebrating with family and friends on this evening, at home or in restaurants, entertainment venues, etc.

On Independence Day, every family in Mexico hangs the national flag, and people wear colorful traditional national costumes and take to the streets to sing and dance. The capital, Mexico City, and other places will hold grand celebrations.

Malaysia-Malaysia Day

Malaysia is a federation composed of Peninsular, Sabah, and Sarawak. They all had different days when they left the British colony. The peninsula declared independence on August 31, 1957. At this time, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore had not yet joined the federation. These three states only joined on September 16, 1963.

Therefore, September 16th is the true establishment day of Malaysia, and there is a national holiday. Note that this is not Malaysia’s National Day, which is August 31st.

September 18  Chile-Independence Day

Independence Day is Chile’s statutory national day, dated September 18 each year. For Chileans, Independence Day is one of the most important holidays of the year.

It was used to commemorate the establishment of Chile’s first National Assembly on September 18, 1810, which sounded the clarion call to overthrow the Spanish colonial government and opened a new page in Chile’s history.

September 21   Korea-Autumn Eve Festival

Autumn Eve can be said to be the most important traditional festival for Koreans in the year. It is a festival of harvest and gratitude. Similar to the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, this festival is even more grand than the Spring Festival (Lunar New Year).

Activities: On this day, many Koreans will rush to their hometown to reunite with the whole family, worship their ancestors, and enjoy Mid-Autumn Festival food together.

September 23   Saudi Arabia-National Day

After years of battle, Abdulaziz Al Saud unified the Arabian Peninsula and announced the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on September 23, 1932. This day was designated as Saudi National Day.

Activities: At this time of the year, Saudi Arabia will organize a variety of cultural, entertainment and sports activities in many cities across the country to celebrate this holiday. Saudi Arabia’s National Day is celebrated in the traditional form of folk dances and songs. The roads and buildings will be decorated with the Saudi flag, and people will wear green shirts.

September 26   New Zealand-Independence Day

New Zealand became independent from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on September 26, 1907, and gained sovereignty.
